Looking back at 2009, a tear comes to my eye! It definitely wasn't the best year and I can't say that I am sad that the year is over! I published this on my Facebook status the other day and a dear friend of mine wrote a response to me that I really needed! She wrote: "Shawn, Don't focus on the things in the past year you wish hadn't happened, instead consider all the fun, happy, successful moments of 2009 - our overnighter to Pgh, all the money we raised for autism, all your post graduate work, Garrett's great start in school, Ethan's good health,; and just think - this marks the 1/2 way p...oint of your dealings with DS, KM, and the BIG R!"
A lot didn't go my way in 2009, but a lot did go right as Sarah pointed out to me! I get caught up in labeling the year bad because of the terrible 4 months that we had to watch my grandma suffer through cancer, watch my Aunt Susan battle cancer through treatments and lay to rest my Aunt Mary from her lost battle....but, there were some good things to remember about 2009 as well! To start 2009 off, our family had a very memorable trip to Florida! I worked my tail off to earn my Autism Specialist Certificate and worked even harder raising awareness for Autism with the help of my coworkers Karen and Sarah! The 3 of us walked in honor of Autism and raised close to $1,600.00 to support it! I continued post-graduate work after the Autism Certificate was completed (why? I do not know ~ aaahh!) but will be finishing up my Supervisor's certificate this spring! In 2009, Garrett did have a great start to school! He goes to one of the nicest schools anyone could ask for and GOD has blessed our family that we are able to financially send him there! Of course that can't go unnoticed without thanking my mom and all of you that support us through the SCRIP program ~ that helps TREMENDOUSLY! And to Aunt Connie for the generous donation of Box Tops that she gave Garrett! It all helps us so much! Ethan has been the healthiest he has been his whole life, I think ;) 2009 also brought an answered prayer for my sister-in-law Tiffany. She was hired at Polk and was also able to return to LPN school. The twins had a good year with cheerleading and meeting many new friends. To end 2009, it was a blessing to have my grandma here with us to ease some of the pain that was felt by having my other grandma not here to celebrate with us! So to look back, 2009 was definitely a heart-wrenching year, but thank you Sarah for helping me remember the good times that was had!
I hope that 2010 brings some changes for the good! I am making one change myself, and that is to try and make my home a safer place. Since 2009 was the year of cancer for my family, I am ready to rid the toxins out of my house and to do this I am going to start selling Shaklee products that are much healthier and safer for the home......if you are interested in seeing what I am talking about, you can check it out:

I hope this post has made you stop and think about some of the good things that happened in 2009......One I almost forgot was the beautiful wedding that took place in my family! Lots of times we get caught up in the bad things that have happened, when truly we have blessings to be thankful for! Sarah ~ you are a true work in this world! You have lots to dwell on yourself, but you always seem to find the good in every situation! Thank you for sharing that with me :)
